Getting stuff to the UK or sending it home, paying for the customs fees…. all costs that can get pretty high. I always tell people that you should only pack what you really can’t live without and not drag kilos of stuff across the world only to then have to pull it all over town when moving flat. You can buy everything here.
Nonetheless sending stuff home is popular as we do end up buying loads of stuff here and they need to get home somehow! Here are some links and advice from the community on this!
ANY RECOMMENDED COMPANIES TO SEND STUFF HOME WITH?
Always shop around and remember that shipping is a subjective thing, every company will have good and bad reviews no matter how good they are.
Kiwi Movers are popular and do sea and air freight.
PSS International Removals also are popular and sometimes run deals for Kiwis in London members (just ask if they are running deals with us!)
Other suggestions are Send My Bag, Anglo Pacific, Seven Seas. It really pays to shop around.
WILL I GET CHARGED GETTING STUFF SENT HERE?
It may be avoided but it is not always so easy. We have some advice on this below:
Luke recommends writing Personal Property on packages
Olivia has a tip for gifts, but read all the comments too!
Bronwyn has some good points too
You can see here where somebody was pinged for a lot, and read comments on how to avoid it!
I won’t lie, so many people refuse to read the FAQ and have been hit for £££ all the time. It always pays to read the page and if in any doubt, ask the page first. We lost count at how many people have complained about this and how much money was lost, and I am talking thousands of ££.
